1. Avoid Distractions

  • No texting or phone use while driving—use hands-free devices if necessary.
  • Avoid eating, adjusting music, or anything that takes your eyes off the road.

2. Never Drive Under the Influence

  • Don’t drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs (including prescription meds), or if overly tired.
  • Use a designated driver, ride share, or public transport if impaired.

3. Follow Traffic Laws

  • Obey speed limits, road signs, and traffic signals.
  • Use turn signals and yield when required.

4. Wear Your Seatbelt

  • Always buckle up, and ensure passengers do too.
  • Properly secure children in appropriate car seats.

5. Maintain a Safe Distance

  • Follow the 3-second rule (at least 3 seconds behind the vehicle in front).
  • Increase distance in poor weather or heavy traffic.

6. Stay Alert

  • Watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycles.
  • Scan your surroundings regularly and check mirrors often.

7. Drive Defensively

  • Anticipate other drivers’ actions.
  • Avoid aggressive driving, and don’t engage with road rage.

8. Adjust for Conditions

  • Slow down in rain, fog, snow, or low visibility.
  • Use headlights appropriately and make sure your tires and brakes are in good condition.

9. Regular Vehicle Maintenance

  • Check brakes, lights, tire pressure, and fluid levels regularly.
  • Fix any mechanical issues promptly.

10. Be Prepared

  • Keep an emergency kit, including first-aid supplies, flashlight, jumper cables, and water.
  • Have your license, registration, and insurance easily accessible.
